Spray catheter - a tool for the internal administration of drugs and chromoscopy
One of the most important instruments for a surgeon during endoscopic procedures is a catheter spray. This is a tube with a spray nozzle at one end. The necessary solutions are delivered through it and enter the patient's body.
The main indications for the use of spray catheters:
- Rinsing the mucous membranes of the organ (for example, with saline).
- Tissue irrigation (antiseptic and antibacterial agents are most often used).
- Bleeding control (application of hemostatic drugs to the organ surface).
- Chromoscopy.
Chromoscopy is a technique widely used in gastrointestinal surgery. Many tumors of the gastrointestinal tract are difficult to diagnose because they are flat or masked by the relief of the esophagus and stomach.
To visualize the tumor well, the doctor sprays a dye solution over the tissue, and the contours of the tumor become clearer. The most commonly used dyes are indigo carmine, which accumulates in the recesses of the stomach, as well as congo red and phenol. They help to separate healthy and pathologically altered areas of the mucous membrane.
Endoscopic spray catheter Alton Medical is easy to use, it can be used to flush the organ with a stream or evenly spray liquid - for irrigation of tissues or their coloring.
In addition to gastroscopy, a spray catheter can be used for other examinations:
- Bronchoscopy (for lavage of the bronchial tree and administration of antibiotics - for example, in case of bronchiectasis).
- Enteroscopy (examination of the small intestine).
- Colonoscopy (washing, coloring of suspicious areas of the colon).
Reusable spray catheters - types, advantages of use, sterilization
Each doctor or medical center decides on its own which endoscopic accessories they need, taking into account the types of minimally invasive interventions and their frequency. If gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, enterocolonoscopy are routine medical procedures, then the endoscopic reusable spray catheter is much more suitable than disposable counterparts.
It is important that the materials from which the instrument is made are of high quality and, most importantly, resistant to disinfection and autoclaving solutions since this equipment will have to be sterilized after each patient. Endoscopy spray catheter Alton Medical meet this requirement. It is also resistant to biological substances and corrosion.
Spray catheters are divided into three types according to the mechanism of liquid atomization:
- Straight jet. The solution is delivered in one direction only. These spray catheters are suitable for flushing the organ or surgical field.
- Spraying in all directions. This option is indispensable when tissues need to be evenly irrigated with a drug. The main application is in chromoscopy.
- Reverse injection. In spray catheters of this type, the jet is directed in the direction opposite to the movement of the endoscope. Surgeons use it for routine flushing.
