Electrosurgical electrodes - a modern safe alternative to steel scalpels
Although scalpels are still used in medicine, they are being replaced by surgical electrodes for the endoscope. These are instruments that greatly simplify the surgeon's work, reduce the risk of bleeding and complications, and shorten the postoperative recovery time.
The basic principle of operation is to affect tissues with the help of current. These instruments are compatible with flexible endoscopes and an electrosurgical generator.
Electrosurgical electrodes are used when the following manipulations are necessary:
- Cut tissue with a low risk of bleeding.
- Remove the pathologically altered area, the affected part of the organ.
- Excise the tumor.
- Perform coagulation and stop bleeding.
- Securely and safely connect tissues (blood vessels, skin, etc).
Endoscopic electrodes Alton Medical - are instruments consisting of a long rod with a working element. It can be a needle, knife, hook, etc. An electric current passes through the rod and is transmitted to the handpiece. This makes it easy to make an incision, coagulate blood vessels, or connect tissues. To cut out polyps, surgical electrodes are used in the form of an endoscopic snare (hexagonal, oval or half-moon).
Coagulation electrode - how it works
Bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract or bronchial tree requires rapid stabilization. Reliable hemostasis can be achieved with diathermocoagulation.
This is the effect of high-frequency current on the source of bleeding with the help of a special coagulation electrode. Under the influence of the current, the vessels quickly heat up and clot. Diathermocoagulation is safe if the operating instructions for the instruments are followed and the electrosurgical generator is reliably grounded.
Endoscopic coagulation electrode consists of a handle, a metal tube, and a working part (rounded tip). The teflon coating of the rod protects the endoscope channel from damage and provides electrical insulation. The tip has a special non-stick coating.
Monopolar coagulation electrode Alton Medical is compatible with the most common gastroscopes, colonoenteroscopes and bronchoscopes
Hot biopsy forceps - a safe method of obtaining tissue for research
Hot biopsy is a minimally traumatic technique in endoscopic surgery. The method is used when it is necessary to obtain biomaterial for histological examination without damaging the tissue.
During the manipulation, endoscopic hot biopsy forceps capture and lift the tumor, after which the surgeon activates the supply of high-frequency current. The required volume of tissue is cut off and the surface is coagulated to prevent bleeding.
Doctors more often use hot biopsy forceps with oval fenestrated cups. This helps to obtain a sufficient volume of tissues without damaging them and injuring the organ. It is also suitable for simple coagulation (stopping bleeding) and removal of small polyps.
Reusable hot biopsy forceps are made of corrosion-resistant steel, which allows for long-term use and sterilization.
