Endoscopic scissors - an indispensable tool for surgeons in performing minimally invasive interventions
Modern endoscopy means not only diagnosing diseases but also performing surgery. During the examination of the affected organ or system, the surgeon can simultaneously perform the necessary manipulations - dissect tissue, apply ligature sutures, or remove the remaining material after ligation.
An essential tool in such situations is an endoscopic scissor. They are used very often in oncological or general surgery. For doctors who regularly practice such minimally invasive operations, reusable endoscopic scissors are more convenient.
These instruments are made of durable, high-quality metal that is virtually unaffected by the destructive effects of hydrochloric acid in the stomach or other body fluids (blood, intestinal contents). They also do not oxidize or get damaged by regular treatment with aggressive detergents.
All endoscopic instrumentation must be sterilised in an autoclave after each use. Autoclaving is carried out with steam under high temperatures and pressure, as this is the only way to kill pathogenic bacteria, especially viruses (the most resistant are hepatitis B and C viruses).
Flexible endoscopic scissors Alton Medical retain their cutting properties for a long time even after daily sterilisation in an autoclave, provided that the instruments are handled according to the instructions for use.
The main indications for the use of endoscopic scissors:
- Tissue sections.
- Providing access to hollow organs.
- Dissection of cartilage. For this procedure, the cutting surface of the instrument must be very sharp.
- Cutting of ligature seams, cutting of ligature residues.
Alton Medical also offers grasping type scissor forceps for endoscopes. They can be equipped with conventional biopsy branches or with rubberised cups. The latter are most convenient for gripping slippery tissues or flat lesions.
Endoscopic shears can have curved or hooked tips. There are also special modifications for microsurgery.
Endoscopic ligation scissors - features of use
Ligation is a modern method of stopping bleeding or removing small tumors in endoscopic surgery. Most often, ligatures are used for bleeding from varicose veins of the esophagus or for removing intestinal polyps.
Endoscopic ligation clips scissors are used to ensure that the tips of the suture material do not remain in the body, as this can cause inflammation in the suture area or the formation of a connective tissue capsule around the ligature.
Endoscopic ligature scissors are also used when the sutures need to be removed for certain reasons. Not all ligatures dissolve in the body. Sometimes they become inflamed and cause discomfort to the patient. Scars can also form in the area with suture material. In such cases, surgeons use flexible endoscopic scissors to carefully cut the ligatures and remove them.
